The paper towel was created in 1907 by the Scott Paper Company in Philadelphia. Scott originally created the paper towel in order to prevent the spread of colds and disease used by cloth napkins used in restrooms. Most believe this creation was actually by accident and the original paper towel was meant to solve the issue of cutting rolls of toilet paper in railroad cars. Additional development occurred to perfect the paper towel and in 1922, the paper towel began to be mass produced. In 1931, paper towels for kitchens were produced by Scott who is the leader in production for paper towels.
